Bauma!

Bauma is one of the largest construction exhibitions in the world. If you sell products all over the world, here is where you should be. PullmanErmator is well represented with a large booth and will show a number of new products.

- I think it will be very interesting for our visitors, says Fredrik Hirn, Director Export Sales. It is not often that you can see so many new products at the same time in our business segment. We will not only show new machines but also innovations and updates on our existing product range.

The requirements from customers in terms of performance, practical handling and work environment increase all the time. PullmanErmator has listened and has implemented these requirements on existing products and has also developed new products.

- We know that there are many customers and users that want to discuss the problems with the dangerous dust on construction sites and other technical issues. This is important to us because these facts and observations are the basis for our product development. That is why we have all our expertise available at the exhibition, Fredrik Hirn adds.

- We are very excited and anticipate a lot from the exhibition this time and welcome all visitors to hall A1 and booth 533, Fredrik Hirn concludes.

PullmanErmator reinforces its management and export department

To increase the focus on the company’s export markets, PullmanErmator has employed Fredrik Hirn as its new exports director. Fredrik started his employment on November 2 2009, and will together with Oscar Asph drive the business development on the export markets.

- We have a platform of distributors that want to develop further and we also have a number of changes that we want to implement. With Fredrik’s competence we are convinced that we will succeed, says Torbjörn Bengtsson, President and owner.

Except for staff investments, PullmanErmator prepares for a number of product launches during next year. Three new dust extractors and three new air cleaners will be presented for the market during the first half of 2010. In addition, the complete three phase line will be upgraded.

Fredrik Hirn comes from Dustcontrol where he has held the export director position for the past five years.

- It is a great challenge to come to Pullman Ermator and to take on this responsibility. With the new changes, I see a great potential to acquire increased market share.

PullmanErmator takes off in the USA

PullmanErmator founded its subsidiary, PullmanErmator LLC, in the USA in April 2008. Sales have increased steadily since the start, despite tough times, especially in the American construction and real estate sector.

- Our products are right for now, says Fredrik Åkermark, Head of Marketing at PullmanErmator, USA. - The need for a clean working environment has really become a focus point in the last two years and in April 2010, new laws will come into force requiring all motorised machine tools to be connected to dust extractors with HEPA filters - Our knowledge of dust and how to protect oneself from dangerous microparticles has started to be recognised even here in the USA. - In this field, we are actually leading both the Americans and our competitors.

- PullmanErmator’s success was evident at the annual IPCSC conference on concrete polishing in Atlanta. The company was very visible; of those who performed outside demonstrations, all chose to use PullmanErmator extractors. - This was hugely beneficial to us and brought us a lot of potential new customers and business. - The trade fair and conference are relatively small and cater to a niche market, but our stand was always very busy, says Fredrik.

This year PullmanErmator has established two new dealerships to meet the increasing demand for the popular machines across the American continent.

- We have established one dealership covering the west coast and one covering the south-east USA. Both are active in the building sector and are familiar faces to many customers. We also intend to bring other dealers on board in 2010, concludes Fredrik Akermark.

PullmanErmator goes underground in Italy!

When the time came for the operator of Milan’s buses and underground, ATM, to select dust collectors for its demanding cleaning requirements, it was decided that PullmanErmator would supply the machines.

ATM learnt about the Swedish machines via the Internet, where the activities of PullmanErmator’s distributor, SK-Professional, had been attracting a lot of attention.
“As PullmanErmator’s products differ considerably from other products of its kind on the Italian market, we decided to go for a slightly different medium. And just like the machines from PullmanErmator, the Internet is a modern channel for those who are looking for something extra,” says Paola Orsi, Sales Manager at SK-Professional. “The result was that we immediately received an order for 20 state-of-the-art machines. The fact that we could guarantee filters and cleanliness to such a large extent was particularly appreciated. Furthermore, the HEPA 13 filter was an absolute must.

A Longopack solution was also an obvious choice in order to handle the hazardous dust from roads and tunnels,” concludes Paola Orsi.

The Swix 6000, now from PullmanErmator

In June 2009, the company SWIX was acquired by PullmanErmator. Some of their well-known products will be retained and solid under the PullmanErmator brand. One example is the popular and best-selling S6000 dust extractor.

- The S6000 is a machine developed by SWIX which we know already has many satisfied users, says Torbjörn Bengtsson, CEO at PullmanErmator. - And therefore, of course, we will continue to sell it. We know demand is high. - The only difference is that, from the turn of the year, the machines will of course come in the characteristic red colour of all PullmanErmator machines. - Some say that red is best for suction, maybe they're right, laughs Torbjörn.

World of Concrete Golf Tournament

At the ”World Of Concrete” trade event in Las Vegas, Pullman-Ermator challenged Tidermans Hyresmaskiner of Gothenburg to a golf match. The match took the form of a best ball-worst ball challenge, and it was played out in the well-known and spectacular surroundings of the Desert Pains golf course.
”We often develop a personal relationship with most of our customers, so we also enjoy being able to socialise outside of business,” says Torbjörn Bengtsson, CEO of Pullman-Ermator and a keen golfer.
The match offered a combination of great holes, magnificent weather and many enjoyable hours on the green. Both the teams hit a variety of shots: long, short, high and low, but it was above all a very pleasant day’s golfing punctuated by plenty of laughter and hilarity.
At the end of the day’s hardships, Pullman-Ermator were declared the winners.
”We’re really glad Tidermans Hyresmaskiner accepted our challenge. We would like to thank them for a very pleasant day and hope we will get an opportunity to defend our title next year," says Torbjörn.

Record sales at World of Concrete in Las Vegas

The 2009 World of Concrete was held in Las Vegas on 2-5 February, and for the first time Pullman-Ermator attended under its own auspices in the form of its US company.
The fair was a huge success. It resulted in record sales and hundreds of new contacts with interested parties – and this despite a 40% fall in visitor numbers compared with 2008, as well as the difficult economic situation currently prevailing in the American construction industry.

”The reason we enjoyed so much success was partly down to the fact that we were well prepared, but judging from our contacts at the trade fair our products are also in a class of their own.
”We clearly offer a quality that is sought after in the USA,” says Fredrik Åkermark, who has been the sales director for the American market for the last year.

Demands are increasingly being made for a clean working environment, which is entirely in line with the strategy of prioritising the user’s health that the company has been pursuing for a long time now – and Pullman-Ermator is already leading the field in machines with the highest filtering levels imaginable.

”More and more companies are choosing Pullman-Ermator as their supplier because we are able to offer our customers safe building extraction systems with individually tested and certified filters,” says Fredrik Åkermark. “We also score highly with agencies in a number of countries,” he adds in conclusion, “because we focus on the health aspect both in product development and in production.”

Cutting-edge technology in the T11000

After a long period of development, the much-anticipated T11000 is now out on the market.
With almost twice the filter surface area compared to its little brother the T7500, and four hepa 13 filters, the T11000 can cope with a high air flow. A number of new solutions also ensure that dust does not block the prefilter packet. Air is led out optimally through a centred exhaust – perfect, for example, when grinding an epoxy floor.

“With no less than 11 Kw, the T11000 is state of the art, and has been designed to give maximum suction and optimum filtering during long periods of continuous operation", says Tomas Otterberg, development manager at PullmanErmator.
“We’ve already sold several T11000 to the major grinding companies, and we seem to have got it just right. The word 'Brilliant!’ is one we’re often hearing back from our customers. And we’re obviously delighted about that.”

The T11000 is ready for delivery.

Big success for little machine

On April first the newly developed “little” dust separator, the S25, was launched on the Swedish market.
Demand was apparently greater than PullmanErmator’s management had expected, as nearly 1,000 units have already been delivered in just two months’ time.
- Nice to know that we were obviously right on target, says Stefan Bergsten, the company’s new head of sales.
- We put a lot of emphasis on keeping close contact with our customers and staying in touch with what they are doing.
This way we hope to get a better idea of what is actually in demand and where we should put our focus in product development.
- In the end, this is just a really good professional quality machine at a pretty low price.
Almost no other machines of this size have H13 filters, for example. And we know that’s what a lot of people are looking for.

The S25 can be ordered from most well-stocked professional suppliers, and is currently being made available to a number of rental agencies.

S1400 – most hygienic to date!

PullmanErmator’s mission is to develop and produce dust separators that make life simpler for anyone working in construction and manufacturing.
Ongoing development of our products allows for the continual release of new and improved models.
Now the company is about to launch the first model in a new generation of dust separators.

The new S1400 was designed to manage extremely fine and volatile dust. Wood dust, plaster and other hazardous particles can be aspirated without releasing any dangerous substances back out into the atmosphere.
The S1400 boasts a full 1,200 Watts of power and features advanced jetted cleaning of the filtration system, which consists of a fine particle filter and a Hepa13 filter.
A Longopac is used for collection, allowing for 100% dust-free emptying of the bag. All this is protected in a transparent container.
The machine is also equipped with a manometer and an electrical socket for the connection of power tools.

Production of these new units has just started and the first deliveries to retailers and end customers can be expected in late August or early September. The machines have been developed largely in response to demand from our
Customers, and numerous advance orders have already been placed.

America can breathe easy:

PullmanErmator is bringing its
clean air to the USA

PullmanErmator has been growing at record speed over the past two years, and has quietly succeeded in spreading its air purifiers and dust extractors around much of the world. Over the past 4 years, PullmanErmator has expanded its market mostly in Europe, but also latterly in Asia and Australia. Regions where the company’s ideas have been accepted with open arms.

“It’s just a matter of recognizing that we’re way ahead of the game in Sweden in terms of environmental thinking,” says Torbjörn Bengtsson, CEO and owner. Demand for products and expertise is enormous elsewhere in the world. So for machines which maintain the highest quality and are also better for your health and that of your employees, the choice of supplier has been an easy one for many businesses.

The great challenge has been to start sales in the USA, a vast market, almost as big as the rest of the world put together. The idea was to start gently and sell via an agent in situ, like in most other markets. But it turned out that interest among Americans had been wildly underestimated.

“At the major industrial fair ‘World of Concrete’ at Las Vegas, there were crowds at our displays and long lines”, says Fredrik Åkermark, sales director of PullmanErmator.

“The USA seems to be a bigger prize than we could ever have dared to hope. Managing this market through an agent proved not to be an adequate solution”, explains Torbjörn Bengtsson. - “So a new company had to be set up in situ, which we’ll be owning and running together with one of the leading industry figures in the American market, Pullman-Holt.”

“We'll have some of our Swedish staff in the field to ensure that we deliver the best possible quality in the USA too.”
“And that we go on working with the health and environment concept that has proved so much in demand”, Torbjörn Bengtsson finishes.”

The featherweight that packs a heavyweight punch!

The S25 model is primarily developed for craftspeople and construction work.
It is manufactured in resilient polypropylene, to stand up to high levels of strain while at the same time being light and flexible. The S25 is able to vacuum away fine dust and powder from such materials as plaster, concrete and wood.
Naturally, the filter is certified in class H13. The machine automatically detects when the filter is clogged, and reacts with automatic cleaning.
Electric tools can be easily connected, and, practically, the dust cleaner can be started directly from them.

”There’s a great need for this kind of dust cleaner on the market. And as far as I know, there is no other dust cleaner in this class which is able to do the job so well and which also has H13 certified filters”, says product manager Tomas Otterberg at Pullman-Ermator’s development department.

The dust cleaner will be launched on the market on 1 April 2008, and will be available through most professional dealers. The aim is for it also to be available through most construction machinery rental companies.

Regroup in the sales channel

In the wake of continued increased sales and more successful investments in export markets, the current sales director Fredrik Åkermark will in future only be working with operations outside Sweden.

Therefore Stefan Bergsten has been appointed as new sales director for the Swedish market. Stefan arrives directly from a position as major customers manager at Arvid Svensson Pro in Västerås.

”Stefan is a great new asset for us. His expertise in the retail market and his experience of responsibility for major customers is exactly what we need right now”, says Fredrik Åkermark.
”Stefan will help us put more pressure on the Swedish market and we expect more new appointments in sales in Sweden.

We will also be launching brand new models of building dust cleaners during the year, which will necessitate major investments on the sales side”, continues Fredrik

Newly developed dust separator,
for 3-phase

At the World of Concrete exhibition in Las Vegas, January 21-25 2008, PullmanErmator will be launching a newly-designed 3-phase dust separator, the T11000. At 11 kW and 32 A, it is outstanding as a suction source for units such as sanding machines for concrete floors, in sizes from 600 mm to 950 mm sanding width.

Its high capacity and large filter surface mean that it can deal with both high capacity and H13 filtering during continuous operation, even when the very finest stages
are being sanded. The T11000 has an autostart feature and is equipped with jet-pulse filter cleaning.
The prefilter surface is 3.8 m2 and the H13 filter surface is 10 m2.

There are two special models for the American market in this "machine body". The T8600 has a motor power of 8.6 kW (16 A), and the large T12600 model has a 12.6 kW (32 Amp) motor.

With this new model, Pullman-Ermator aims to take a firm grip on this market segment, and already has several pre-launch orders both in the USA and Europe.

Live in Las Vegas

The "World of Concrete" trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada in the U.S. is one of the absolute largest trade shows in the world for structural engineering.
It is time once again between 21-25 January. Pullman-Ermator will also exhibit its products, and company representatives will talk about activities at the company’s stand. Several new features will be exhibited for the first time. An example is T8600 BIG, which is a new 3-phase vacuum that was developed in the factory in Smedjebacken in Sweden. Just as the name implies, it has even greater capacity and also cuts operation costs.

Great successes in Asia

As a result of an international increase in demand for PullmanErmator’s products, the company set up new distributors in September in Australia, Singapore and Thailand.
There are also intensive negotiations going on in Japan, and one or several establishments are expected shortly.
Cooperation has also recently been extended with the distributor in New Zealand.

All new resellers have in common that they also distribute concrete milling machines and grinding machines for concrete floors - a major problem here has previously been how to deal with the dust in a way suitable for the working environment. PullmanErmator’s models S1300, S2400, T3000, T3500 and T7500 can easily be connected to such machines, of any manufacturer, and this guarantees that all dangerous dust is efficiently collected up.
After comprehensive testing, PullmanErmator’s machines have come out clearly on top, both in terms of filtration and performance.

According to the new distributors, access to PullmanErmator machines will provide their various companies with a clear competitive advantage.

Hole-in-One at Technical Trade Fair

16-19 October was the time for one of the most interesting events of the year – the Stockholm Technical Trade Fair.

Many curious participants took the opportunity of visiting the Pullman-Ermator stand. Tempting them in was our broad range of products and also the challenging putting competition, where 250 brave visitors tried to putt a golf ball into a hose. At the other end, was a 5.5kW vacuum cleaner which quickly sucked in the ball. Most participants completed the test with flying colours!

The one who did best of all and in the end won the winning ticket in the final lottery to take home a vacuum cleaner was Christer Andersson from Sjölander’s workshops at Västerås – Congratulations!

PullmanErmator on the golf course

The company sent out invitations to this year’s PullmanErmator Open on Friday 25 August at the Linde Golf Club in Lindesberg. In spite of being fairly new, the competition has become popular among employees, customers and many other business partners. This year’s competition offered a fine course, brilliant weather and a full starting field. Martin Beme won the competition with a creditable round of two below par.

The day before, PullmanErmator had also arranged a Pro-am competition, in which 16 teams of three players and one golf pro each competed. Everyone enjoyed a close competition with some very nice golf. The K.J. Ligma AB team were the winners.
Torbjörn Bengtsson, Fredrik Sundh and Oscar Asp from Pullma Ermator competed in the event.

We congratulate both the competitors and the winners on fine golfing results.

Booming sales demand stronger organization

The continued boom in sales demonstrates that PullmanErmator products are clearly in tune with the times. Today's brisk business climate and the keener interest in health care are two additional important reasons for the successes.

Sales in the Nordic countries and the Baltic States are growing vigorously, and the company has now also launched sales in France, the USA and Great Britain.
On 1 August, Fredrik Sundh has taken up the post of Sales Leader for the Swedish market. Fredrik was previously a salesman for the Stockholm District. He will now be coaching five Swedish salesmen and will also devote his work to certain key customers.

“In his post of Sales Leader, Fredrik will assure us of greater pressure and continuity in our sales work. We have six very competent salesmen, but we all sometimes need a sounding board and someone who can offer some coaching in the day-to-day sales work,” says Sales Manager Fredrik Åkermark.

Oscar Asph, who has been away from PullmanErmator for six months, is now back with the company. Oscar will be working as Key Account on the Swedish market.

“We are very pleased to have Oscar back with us. He is perfectly suited for his new role,” says Fredrik Åkermark, who will now be focusing on other markets and new ventures.

Building dust is claiming a growing number of victims

Deadly dust is spreading at building sites throughout Sweden. The working environment is steadily worsening. A new study by the Swedish Environmental Institute shows how building workers in the country are increasingly exposed to dust – often at concentrations of twice the limit value.

The Environmental Institute report being completed this summer has already attracted the attention of Swedish TV and press, and now sheds light on the actual threat. In the “Byggnadsarbetaren” (“Building Worker”) periodical, Bengt Christensson, industrial hygiene engineer and working environment researcher at the Swedish Environmental Institute, comments on the study and describes why he suspects that the situation has deteriorated. A clear warning signal is the evidence that the dreaded silicosis caused by quartz dust is back, after having basically been eliminated.
Together with the Environmental Researcher Annika Karlsson, Bengt has concluded the study, which is the first part of the dust project entitled “Effective measures on building sites” (in Swedish). The next step is to prepare proposals for remedial measures. Torbjörn Bengtsson, Managing Director of PullmanErmator, emphasizes the importance of the report and confirms many of the results that have emerged.
“It is vitally important for studies of this type to be carried out and highlighted. The research results are in line with our own work aimed at achieving cleaner and healthier building sites. In actual fact, it’s human lives that are at stake.”And he continues: “We are waging a continuous war against the fatal threat of this dust. It is important to draw attention to the problem, so that it will gain broader appreciation of how dangerous it actually is. Only then can we take action on a united front.”

The study is being completed in the summer of 2007 and will be available to order in the autumn through IFL Svenska Miljöinstitutet (IFL Swedish Environmental Institute).

PullmanErmator at Gisbau
On 22 February, PullmanErmator was invited to the German organization Gisbau in order to hold a seminar on clean working environment. The conference on the theme “Weniger Staub am Bau” – Less dust on building sites – attracted around 150 persons. The visitors came from the biggest building contractor companies, authorities and property owners.

PullmanErmator was invited because the company's products were of acknowledged high quality and safety. Since we are focused on health, recommend H13 filters in all applications on building sites, and have products that were found by testing to surpass the filtration demands, the company and its products were found to be even more interesting.

The lecture was very well received and PullmanErmator distributor Thomas Wolf from the Seelbach company received enquiries for new assignments. PullmanErmator will participate in a training programme for building workers on the subject of clean working environment, and the programme will start after the summer.

PullmanErmator concludes agreement with biggest Nordic chain for equipment hire
In stiff competition with other suppliers, PullmanErmator has concluded an important contract with Ramirent – the biggest Nordic chain for building and plant equipment hire.

“In the past, we had been working with both Pullman and Ermator, and now that they have merged, they have a very comprehensive range and are even more attractive as a supplier to us,” says Mikael Kämpe, Purchasing Manager at the Ramirent Head Office in Helsinki.

“PullmanErmator has pursued aggressive marketing, which has impressed us. We want to work with strong brand names also in relation to our customers. High quality and dependability of supply are self-evident features to us, and in this area too, PullmanErmator meets our strict demands.“

“We are very pleased to have maintained and developed further our cooperation with Ramirent after the merger,” says Fredrik Åkermark, Sales Manager at PullmanErmator. “The fact that we are suppliers to them is obviously a feather in our cap for the whole company.”

Transfer of production for higher efficiency
After the merger with Ermator, the company is now identifying a number of areas in which clear benefits of scale could be gained by the transfer of production and development of logistics.

“In order to achieve a number of benefits, we intend to concentrate all production of air cleaners to the Gällö plant. At the same time, all production of vacuum cleaners will be concentrated to Smedjebacken,” says Torbjörn Bengtsson, Managing Director of PullmanErmator.

All air cleaners, together with their spare parts and filters, will be delivered from Gällö as from 1 November. Vacuum cleaners and their spare parts and accessories will be supplied from Smedjebacken.

More efficient production and handling create the opportunities for dynamic product development and counteract unnecessary price increases, which will jointly also be of benefit to our customers,” says Bengtsson.

Silicosis is with us again
Silicosis has long been regarded as having been eradicated in Sweden. But the lung ailment has re-emerged in recent years. This is largely due to the establishment of many new companies in the quarrying and mining industries.

The “Arbetarskydd” (“Worker protection”) periodical writes in a report in its September issue that silicosis has again gained a foothold in Sweden. The explanation is that the new companies in this line of business do not have the knowledge needed for protection against quartz dust. Moreover, today’s medical practitioners do not have the competence necessary for detecting silicosis in good time which, at worst, can be fatal to the patient.

In the 1970s, the National Swedish Board of Occupational Safety and Health launched an extensive programme for preventing quartz dust from causing silicosis to employees. The companies were forced to protect their workers. The measures taken were effective, and the number of silicosis cases basically dropped to zero. But it is now on the upturn again. As a result, the Swedish Work Environment Authority will resume taking measurements of quartz dust concentrations at workplaces. At the same time, the old regulations will be revised.

New product range structure for clearer communication
In conjunction with the acquisition of Ermator during the spring, a project was started for a new way of structuring the product range.

Outdated product designations have been modernized, and the products are now classified into seven lines to ensure a better and more integrated overview.

  A line:     Air cleaners
C line:     Pre-collectors
I line:     Special and combined vacuum cleaners
M line:     Semi-professional machines
S line:     Dust collectors
T line:     Three-phase vacuum cleaners
W line:    Wet collectors

In addition, the O line for service and accessories is now also being established.

“This creates simplicity in the handling of our product range. In addition, we will be clearer in our communication with customers and suppliers,” says Tomas Otterberg, Product Manager at PullmanErmator.
”We have also taken the opportunity to introduce a new, more modern graphic profile for emblems and product markings. This contributes to certain of our products being truly among the latest on the market,” concludes Tomas.

The product that was launched during the spring has now basically been completed and will guide the communication related to the company products.

Acquisition reinforces expansion
In order to develop the advanced cleaning systems of tomorrow within industry and for craftsmen, strong players are needed that can make large investments in new products as well as act on an international market. Pullman Scandinavian's acquisition of Ermator AB in March 2006 was a step towards that development.

The new company, which will be called PullmanErmator, will offer leading competence within the areas of dust and air quality management for craftsmen and industry. The deal provides many collaboration advantages, and creates additional strength within the range and organization for quick expansion in both Sweden and Europe.
"Ermator's 30 years of experience in dust extraction provides us with solid competence and a strong trademark. We are now able to offer a complete programme for dust, air and slurry extraction," says Torbjörn Bengtsson, owner and CEO of PullmanErmator.

Ermator's recent acquisition of Renair Luftrening, together with Pullman's acquisition of Miljöburken in 2005 - both well known trademarks within air cleaning - also contribute to the broad base of PullmanErmator's strategic focus on cleaner working environments.

PullmanErmator's sales manager Fredrik Åkermark and CEO Torbjörn Bengtsson are currently leading development at the new company. Additional product launches and powerful growth both in the domestic market and out in Europe are expected over the next few years.
